I had an afflatus, and I am thinking if this will make any sense.

You know, we photographers are always challenged with the growing numbers of iPhone, iPad photographers out there, pushing us around, or popping into frames when we shoot weddings. It’s a lost battle! Frankly, it is. Steve Jobs, I like you! I adore you, but you did put this challenge up front for us photographers for making these iPhones and iPads with cameras. In your words, Mr. Jobs, It’s insane….

The challenge is this, people generally don’t know that they are not helping the wedding photographically, cos they too want a piece of memory.

When was the last time, we actually walked into a wedding, and while the bride and groom exchange their vows, everybody was actually listening….. and not taking pictures from their iPhone, iPad, Samsung Galaxy S1, 2,3 , Note, and whatever camera they own? Wouldn’t it be nice to actually be listening, and share the moment with bride and groom…

Well, that’s what I thought….

Here is the thing, it’s tough to actually blow off people who are taking photos cos

no1. They don’t know that they are actually distrupting our work.

no2. We don’t know how they will react.

But I guess a little comedy will lighten the mood I guess…how about some Internet Memes ?

I am in Bangkok, with some dead time in between andI thought I would blog to tease a little about the magazine that I’ve published on the Apple AppStore. If you have not already been following my post, which I have been unashamedly plug it on Facebook, and any other chance that I get, we here at Jon Low Studios have launched an iPad magazine since 2 months ago. While the downloads been great, I thought to share with you guys some of the content of the magazine right here on my blog.

It’s been barely a month since we’ve launched Portfolio by Jon Low. Thank you for downloading the app! Getting the app running has been an experience. It feels great to be lost in it, not counting hours, and losing sleeping time haven’t felt that great before.

Today, we are rolling out Issue #2 of Portfolio by Jon Low. We are featuring weddings we shot at Four Seasons, Langkawi in these past years. We think the photographs are interesting, especially if you are planning a beach wedding. Download a copy and be inspired with how your wedding could be at the beach!

Potfolio by Jon Low’s app on the iPad is still fresh, and with continuous development on the platform as we speak, it’s far from being a perfect experience for now. Issue #2 is a bigger magazine than Issue #1. For one, it’s a 90+ Mb download. I’ve also experienced minor crashing issue, but that shouldn’t stop us from viewing the articles, and photographs featured. As the platform matures, it will be greatest experience ever!

It all started 3 weeks ago when Ji San & Kwan Yeow had us shooting their ROM over at Aman Rimba, Janda Baik. That was a great celebration, just slightly 45 minutes away from the busy streets of Kuala Lumpur. We headed out and had a good time shooting some portraits, getting ready and the ROM ceremony with family and friends of the couple.

Ji San & Kwan Yeow’s wedding was today. Hence, we compiled a slideshow of the ROM so they could play back during the wedding day. They love the slideshow, hence I ended up shooting some extra photographs on their wedding as their 3rd photographer. Oh boy, what a joy when I get to explore and shoot a wedding as a 3rd photographer.

Here are some of my favorite photographs from the slideshow we did at Aman Rimba, and some of Ji San’s wedding day photographs.

I’ll give you a free tattoo. Wherever you want it, color or black and white, whatever size. I’ll get to decide what it is.

Of cos, that ship set sailed without me taking up that offer, and definitely he is joking…. right?  Still, I’ve got myself tattooed by Simon. A good 4 years later, I got a call from Sherlwyn to shoot their prewedding and wedding day. How things came around.

Today, I shot his wedding. Surrounded by quite happening dudes and duchess around town. Gotta give the cool couple a head up for a great wedding outing albeit a little challenge with the weather.

Here are some of my favourite photographs taken today.

And I asked the daddy, when was the last time you sat “kangkang”. He said, it’s been awhile. And then I asked, when was the last time he sat “kangkang” with Simon. He said, never… so here is the first =D. We made these photographs.

The year end is upon us now, and as like previous years, year end weddings are the busiest shooting period we experience from throughout the year. It feels good to be out there making new photographs, and creating new experiences for ourselves, and for the newly weds.

We went away to Pulau Langkawi to shoot Teresa & Anthony’s wedding over the last weekend over at Andaman. The weather wasn’t exactly too kind to us all. We had a fair share of trouble shooting at the Langkawi Mangrove, scouting for the boat that we love, and Anthony & Teresa unable to host their wedding at the beach as initially planned due to rain. Nevertheless, as the time arrived for them to walk down the isle, the spirit lifted with everyone embracing the newly weds. Nothing beats warm hearts, crazy smiles and genuine affection and love from people we love.

I’ve showed the couple a slideshow before we left Langkawi, and I would like to share some of the photographs we made over last week Saturday’s wedding. Anthony & Teresa, once again, thank you for being such a wonderful couple and host . Bless marriage

I remember way back when I learned about the internet. I would find a quote somewhere on the internet, fire up an image editor and create a .gif, with the quote and then forward it around on ICQ. That was then I knew I love designing for the web. That was the first reason why I got myself into photography. I needed photographs to manipulate into my web designs and thought how great it would be if I could photograph them.

Many years gone from those days. If anything at all, the appreciation of creating beautiful things manifest to what Jon Low Studios is about today. I am passionate to create interesting photography work. Be it on a wedding day, or my travel photography.

I am fond of design and the usage of photography in designs. When I discover I could put this love into creating a magazine on the iPad, I simply couldn’t stop working on making this my personal project to work.

Today, I would love to share some of the outcome of this obsession of mine. Portfolio by Jon Low, is a short form magazine which feature stories and photography from my collection of work. I would release an issue to showcase some of my latest work. Be it for wedding photography, or my personal projects in the future.

With this thing, it’s always a work in progress. It’s always experimental, and I may break things, and I am working with extremely low resources with me taking the photographs, designing them, and writing the stories. So, if anyone would assist me in persuing this project, I am all ears

The iPad is simply for photography. Photographs look gorgeous on the iPad. I love the form factor, and the possibility of an iPad magazine.

Back in 2009, we traveled half the world in getting wedding portraits, whilst photographing some of the best places on earth. We were in California, more specifically in San Francisco, San Diego, an Los Angeles.

Steve Jobs only wanted to paint the outside of the fence but his father told him to care about the other side of the fence even though no one would ever sees it.
