Santorini Couple Photoshoot: Irene & Hun, Felicia & Andrew, Twelve Years On

I miss the adventure of being out there.

“I have nothing to say but to mention that I am probably having my best moment in my life.”

I said that in Istanbul in 2014, on my way to Athens and Santorini.

Why I am going back

01

The young me, living the dream

In 2014, I was younger, and moving around to a new city was exciting. It was the young me living the dream I was setting myself to do. Part of it was me fulfilling that. And part of me was very excited to create a new portfolio for Irene & Hun.

I was young and a bit ahead of myself… maybe not a bit, quite over-ambitious. I was eager to prove myself.

And it was not a trust earned. I would fear losing it, cos I need to deliver.

Felicia & Andrew’s vows

Felicia and Andrew went through the trouble of officiating their wedding in Santorini.

As I remember, Andrew was the romantic one. He had been to Santorini once, and he wanted to show Felicia around. So they went through the trouble of planning an official ceremony, in front of a legal witness from the venue, and me, the photographer.

I remember Andrew sharing the hoops he went through, translating his legal documents between Malay and Greek for the occasion.

It was quiet, at sunset. It’s actually really beautiful.

Before Santorini, Felicia and Andrew went to Paris Disneyland 😉 so, that’s unique.

Twelve years on

The ones in the portfolios that I am showing are the ones I am very proud of, still.

Between then and now, I am more confident behind the camera. I read situations better. I see photographs easier. Maybe still as excited. It’s 12 years of being more experienced at the craft.

Why I am going back

Covid was the main stopper. I remember I was supposed to board a plane to travel the very day they announced a lockdown.

So that happened, and travel photography has changed quite a bit since then.

I miss the different surroundings, crafting a different experience for both me and the couple. I miss the adventure of being out there.

From the same years, here is our couple photoshoot in Japan.
