The Same Day Slideshow: Your Wedding Morning, on the Big Screen at Dinner

Made between the ceremony and dinner. Played when everyone is seated.

By Jon Low

A same day slideshow is a photo film of your wedding, made on the day itself and played at your dinner. Photos from that morning, set to a song, on the big screen that night.

Picture this. From the very morning, we work with you and your family to make those photos. Then it’s 9pm. Everyone is seated, watching the slideshow. They see the photos, and they remember the day they just had.

01

What goes in it

Typically a wedding starts way too early in the morning. Getting ready, then each family has their own version of a ceremony before breaking for lunch. Nowadays we will have a short bridal portrait session before we take our break.

All of that goes in. The last photos in the slideshow are usually those portraits, just before the break.

02

The break it needs

The slideshow is made during the break between the ceremony and dinner. I need a 3-hour break in the running order for it. Without one, the slideshow goes online within 7 days instead.

The break is shorter than the time we need to breathe. We cull, we edit, we lay out the slides, we fit the song, and we deliver no matter what. It is always just in time.

Jonali & Bhavik, The Westin Langkawi

A four-day wedding. The night before, I prepped 60% of the slides, falling asleep halfway. Then on the day, I had to add the ceremony before handing it over.

It played just before 11pm, at their dinner.

Theirs played at 9.20pm, at dinner.

Why I built a slideshow app

I’ve been shooting weddings for a good two decades now, and I’ve made hundreds of these. A slideshow used to take me three hours. Most of that was arranging every photo by hand.

So I built OMS Slide, a slideshow app for Mac. In Lightroom I mark colour labels to group photos into a slide, and it lays out the whole show and cuts it to the song. That’s an hour and a half back on the wedding day.
