Why book the full day for a Chinese wedding in Kuala Lumpur
By Jon Low
A short day booking is usually done for wedding receptions. It does not carry the most important and intimate moments. Those happen earlier in the day.

What a short day misses
A full day gives me a chance to do family portraits once the getting ready is done properly. Couple portraits and all. A reception only booking skips every bit of that.

02
How the day runs
Getting ready. Gate games. Tea ceremony. Bride over to the groom’s house. Tea ceremony. Then I work on the slideshow, and then the wedding reception dinner.
Each part is a different moment. A reception booking only meets the last one. See a day laid out in full in Chinese weddings in Malaysia.
03
Family photographs first
The first thing I need is their availability for family photographs after everyone has gotten ready. They are fresh, they are ready for the day. Family photo first, before the rest of the activities. Later in the day that is harder.
Crew meals are mandatory. A full day is long, and we need to eat to keep going.

04
Two photographers
One photographs the bride and the other the groom, and we get different angles. Both sides are covered at the same time.
05
Directed, not posed
Couples worry about photographic style. They are not model quality, they need to be directed, but they don’t want posed photos. So I direct them, and I keep it from looking posed.

Questions we get asked
